Cthulhu Is After Me!!!
For the past year, I have been having dreams about Cthulhu in a completely unrelated manner. Although these types of dreams might be considered normal since it is a character from popular culture, certain oddities provide a good example of both how strange dreams can become and their unusual nature. First, I must clarify that I have had no connection with Cthulhu whatsoever. I have not even glanced at any of its stories once. I only know it by name. The closest reference for me is Baldur’s Gate 3, which I last played in late 2024, just for a few weeks(i couldnt even past act 2). Apart from that, during the period I’ve been having these dreams, I have neither opened nor looked at anything related to Cthulhu, not even once…
Despite this, Cthulhu enters my dreams quite mysteriously and consistently.
The first dream was simply a short scene of me swimming in dark waters at night. In the water I was swimming in, I saw the tentacles of a gigantic black creature resembling an octopus-squid passing underneath me. It even touched me.

This dream wasn’t that abnormal. It just contained an intense sense of unease. Generally, creatures like squids are not very familiar to me.
Before I could dwell on it too much, the second dream arrived with a very clear message, a week later.
This time, a terrifying disaster was occurring in the city. Waves were rising and hitting the shore like a flood. Workers on the coast, battered by the flood, seemed to say "enough" as if they were coming themselves and stopped working. I saw something rising a pitch-black mud from the sea on the horizon, beginning to take the form of Cthulhu. It was spitting thousands of black, muddy, octopus-like little entities that resembled itself. They were spreading like a virus. True chaos reigned. The only way to protect oneself from them was to stay in underground, in pitch black darkness.

In this dream, I could no longer deny that it was Cthulhu. I knew its name in the dream as well. After this day, I did not have any dreams related to him for a long time. In fact, I rarely dreamed at all. I did not make much effort to interpret the dream. Since the unique part of the theme felt very foreign to me, I wanted to see how it would unfold over time. Normally, I have flood dreams; I frequently see water overflowing, floods, disasters, or alien attacks in the city. But the question is why i started to see theese themes with Cthulhu out of nowhere.
Cthulhu, who left me alone for a long time, entered my dream again last week. Again, with a disaster dream taking place in the city. This time, I knew Cthulhu was rising again; people were fleeing, and I saw giant flying spiked octopuses above the city. The scene actually resembled an alien invasion.

My thoughts on these dreams are still not concrete enough. Normally, such story characters are symbolic and do not represent reality. Admittedly, we can say the same for real people you see in dreams. But it is never a definitive explanation. Sometimes when you see someone in a dream, it really is about that person. Yes, but Cthulhu is not a real entity. I remember that nothing happened to overturn my life when I had the second disaster dream. Looking through a Jungian lens, it seems like I am facing a foreign force that stresses me out and whose effects extend to cities. However, the strangeness of the situation does not make the explanation sufficient in my eyes.
So, what else could it be?
DreamPLane is a unified field that houses its own autonomous bodiless entities. Perhaps there is a power trying to enter my mind from this field. And maybe my mind is translating this energy as Cthulhu. If so, I can say that something slimy is truly trying to haunt me :D
Either way, if I think that entities are leaking through the cracks in the mental field (cracks that causing attention disruption and loss of self), it looks like an incentive to do all kinds of shadow work :D
